Born in London and brought up in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, reading and writing have always been my passions. My parents gave me a typewriter for my birthday when I was about twelve to write my stories on, and I have been able to type two-handed and at speed ever since.
While my love of writing never faded, life, work and everything else got in the way until I stopped making excuses, sat down and wrote. The irony is that most of my working life, until I started a small business from home to give myself time to write, was in the publishing industry. First, as a copy editor, and then later as an assistant publisher and then a publisher.
My interest in the romance genre began when I wrote my Master of Arts thesis on the translation of romance fiction. My interest in history goes back much further, and I love reading historical research books. I have always loved fantasy and fairy tales, from the Wishing Tree when I first started to read, to The Hobbit and beyond. Putting all those elements together, history, fantasy and romance, makes writing feel like the best job in the world to me.
I currently live on the west coast of South Africa with my husband, two small children and two golden labradors.
One's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.
- Oliver Wendell Holmes
To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead.
– Bertrand Russell
